Yesterday we got a rare bout of freezing rain and sleet, enough to put a light coating on everything. Well worth documenting.
Temps fell to the low 20’s this morning. This shouldn’t be cold enough to kill anything on my benches, especially since it’ll warm up a bit today.
Isn’t it amazing that we can grow the same species in very different climates? Our high for today is 25 and expecting up to 8 inches of snow. Tomorrows low is 4 with windchill around -10. I’ll see if I can get some pics of the b.c. Covered in snow. Other species like Chinese elm and trident maple are in my indoor wintering spot which I would imagine more closely resembles your temps down there. How cold would it have to get for you to move trees off their benches?
You bet is it, Tim. My cutoff is about 20, based on long experience. It’s probably a little different now that I have shade cloth over much of my bench area, but I’d still go on the ground if we got colder. Another factor is how long you stay cold. We’ll get up to about 40 today, back down to 22 tonight and then warming a bit.
