About
We love beautiful bonsai. We love the collection, we love the potting, wiring, and styling. We love BEAUTIFUL BONSAI.
Serving the Serious Bonsai Enthusiast Since 1988
Low-key and subtle … this is how anyone who knows Zach would describe him. Bonsai is a natural fit to his personality and his creative nature. Which is ironic considering his other job is in the technical field where there’s zero creativity; only numbers and facts.
It’s really amazing how the tranquility of shaping a tree can erase the pressures of the day. I’m guessing you can understand.
Zach’s Promise to You
Zach is dedicated to the art of bonsai and equally dedicated to making sure every tree he departs with has been well cared for and maintained. His goal? To provide you with affordable and beautiful bonsai and the best service in the industry. Want to know more about Zach? You can read about how his bonsai journey started and how he ended up with Bonsai South. Besides, it’s nice to get to know him.

Hi Zach, I’m in a nursery bonsai competition. I have to turn a nursery plant into a bonsai that cost less than 75 dollars. I decided picking 3 black gum Tupelo (nyssa sylvatica) I’m wondering if you have any info on bonsai these I was aiming to do some sort of forest but they are in 2-3G pots to it will be hard to get them all fit in one bonsia pot.
Here’s on of the whole tree.
I think the tree looks fine. Not sure where you are, but if you’ve suffered anything near the drought we have then kudos for keeping your tree in great shape. As for advice, don’t do anything for the remainder of this season but water and fall-feed. Next year lift from the pot, check the roots for overgrowth, trim if needed and repot in fresh soil.
American Hornbeam sick?
I’m trying to determine what’s going on with two of my American Hornbeams. Too much water? Too little? They’ve been fertilized with pellets twice this season, last was in late July. Thanks!
Hi Zach, is it possible for you to send me your bald cypress development guide? I have two yamadori bald cypress currently budding out like crazy and researching next steps for next year.
Any update on collected bald cypress? Your past Inventory looks amazing and reasonably priced. Ready to buy.
Hi Zach will you be collecting hornbeam this spring ?
No, James, it doesn’t look like it. I haven’t found a good spot to collect them in a few years now, and with the early spring it’s now too late as they’re budding out.
Hey Zach, I am located in Arkansas and am getting into Bonsai myself. I would love to pick your brain on different native species if you don’t mind. I’m digging up some trees in my backyard as starter. Love to show you.
I’m sure you’ll love the art and craft of bonsai, Jody. You should be able to find a lot of information on my site about native species, as that is what I mostly work with. While I don’t mind answering a few quick questions, I’m not able to take a lot of time for one-on-one queries. Full-time job, bonsai biz, raising grandkids, etc. I’m sure you can understand.
